Hon Murray McCully

Minister of Foreign Affairs New Zealand

Hon Murray McCully is New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Sport and Recreation. At last year’s Pacific Islands Forum he announced New Zealand would co-host the Pacific Energy Summit to help capitalise on the progress Pacific countries were making in the field of renewable energy.

Since 2008 he has overseen a reshaping of New Zealand’s aid programme to focus on sustainable economic development. This includes enhanced support for renewable energy initiatives, aimed at reducing the Pacific’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Mr McCully entered Parliament in the 1987 general election and was first appointed a minister in October 1991. He holds an LLB and is a qualified barrister and solicitor. Prior to entering Parliament, he was principal of a major public relations company.
