Mr Xianbin Yao is the Director General of the Pacific Department of ADB. He assumed office in April 2012.

Mr Yao leads the department that formulates ADB’s operational strategies for the Pacific developing member countries, including economic analyses, policy analyses, and country performance reviews, and develops associated country operation programmes for ADB assistance.

Prior to this, Mr Yao was the Director General for ADB’s Regional and Sustainable Development Department. Before this, he was the Deputy Director General of ADB’s Central and West Asia Department.

Mr Yao joined ADB in 1991 as a young professional and has worked in different functional areas in ADB, including country operations, education and agriculture sector operations, and economic research.
