Pim van Ballekom

Vice President European Investment Bank (EIB)

Pim van Ballekom is the Vice President of the EIB, a position he has held since January 2012. His responsibilities include relations with central banks and financial regulators, financing operations in Europe and strategy for the Baltic Sea region. He is also a member of the European Investment Fund’s Board of Directors. From 2007-2011, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the EIB.
Prior to his position with the EIB, Mr van Ballekom was Head of International Public Affairs at APG Pension Group. During his career so far, he has held many significant roles in both the European Union institutions and in his native Netherlands. He has twice been Financial Counsellor and Head of the Financial Section at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands at the EU. He was the Netherlands Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He has been head of the EU section within the Dutch Ministry of Finance.

He has worked with Commissioner Piebalgs before, when the Commissioner held the energy portfolio within the European Commission.

Mr van Ballekom has both a Bachelor and Master’s degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Leiden.
